Peace Makers Movement & MLK Peace and Freedom Walk

The Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Peace and Freedom Walk

The United Black Fund holds the Martin Luther King Jr. Peace and Freedom Walk annually on the day of the late Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. This year in particular, participants walked from the United Black Fund to Shepard Park, at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Malcolm X Boulevard. This walk takes place to honor the legacy of  Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the millions who struggled, often times at the price of their lives, to end slavery,  abolish segregation, exercise the right to vote and those who now fight to secure statehood here in Washington, DC. We walk in hopes of inciting  self-determination and pride in the people of our communities, to promote universal suffrage and to finally put an end to the war and violence that is tearing our people apart. This year we had the honor of having many special guest speakers such as Nick Cannon, Dick Gregory and Lonise Bias, to name  a few.
